Jenner Kizer, 17, a senior at Trinity Valley, won his third male overall title at the Trinity 5000 on Aug. 9. He is one of the 100-200 runners who brave the hot days of summer to participate in this weekly
summer series on Thursday nights in Fort Worth.
``It was hot tonight,'' Jenner said as temperatures had hovered in the 90s all day and weren't much cooler for the 7:30 p.m. start. But Jenner said there isn't a lot of pressure at these runs. ``For a 5K, it's relaxing, laid back. So, you don't have to be too nervous about it. Just come out and have a good time and get a trophy sometimes.''
Jenner is coming off a junior season when he took second in the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs at the Southwest Preparatory Conference state meet, and his 4x800 team won third place.
Race director Ricky Cox said what's been fun this summer is that 30 to 40 youngsters show up to run in the free 1K. One of Ricky's goals is to encourage more youngsters to lead healthy lifestyles by exercising.
