Dallas Running Club
The Dallas Runners Club is accepting used shoes to donate to the Shoe Bank. Most runners have some decent shoes laying around with too many miles on them. So, gather them up and take them to the DRC clubhouse. Read about the details.
Plano Pacers Running Club
Payton Brown, 9 years old, ran a 20:40 at the Plano Pacers Fresh Start 5K on Jan. 26 to set a club record in the 7-9 age division. Her time is faster than the boys record in that age division. Also, Payton's sister Sydney, who just turned 12, won the women's overall in 20:22.
Payton's time also scores a 105.3 on the Pacer scale, making it a national-level effort. The only other higher score recorded was taht of Mary Knisely, when she ran a 16:05 in 1987 when she was 27 years old. Emily Field's 104.8 score in 2007 is the only other score over 104 in a Plano Pacers event. It previously was published that Robert Wallace had a 104.6 in 1987, but his the wrong age was used to determine the score, which changed his score to 102.8. Two other club records were set in the 10K race as Bill Shaw ran a 41:49 to eclipse the former 65-69 age division record held by Bob Abbott, and Gordon Ratcliff ran a 45:29 to replace the 70-74 record previously held by Clyde Villemez.
Payton was one of 32 Lake Cities Cross Country team members who ran the race. The club is a developmental running program for third through eighth grades. Lake Cities coaches prepare the runners for high school cross country competition. Brad Lutz said the club finished its fourth year in 2007. Members compete in several events throughout the year, including the AAU or USATF Junior Olympic Cross Country National Championships each fall. In December 2007, 40 athletes on six teams went to Lawrence, Kan., to compete. The team's 11-12 boys team won third in the nationals, and the 9-10 girls finished seventh. Payton ran and finished 16th nationally, earning Junior Olympic All-American honors, one of five Lake Cities athletes to earn that. The team is based in the Highland Village, Flower Mound and Lewisville area. Each of the volunteer coaching staff is a Level 1 certified coach through the USATF education program.
